Types of injuries that appear later after a car accident

Car accidents happen all the time in the state of Florida. According to data from Florida's DMV, over 200,000 car crashes happened every year between 2005 and 2009. This results in hundreds of injuries every day.

While many car crash injuries are readily apparent, some do not manifest until weeks or even months later. This is why it is crucial for those injured to see a doctor right away. A medical report on file will increase the likelihood of an insurance company covering the medical expenses for injuries that would ordinarily be tough to prove were a result of the accident.

Abdominal pain

This pain often comes as a result of internal bleeding. Additional symptoms of a person suffering from internal bleeding include fainting and severe bruising. It can sometimes take days for a person to realize he or she has developed symptoms.

Back pain

Car crashes can severely damage a person's vertebrae, ligaments and muscles. This is one of the most common injuries people sustain after car accidents, but it can take days to take notice of the discomfort.

Headaches

It can take days or even weeks for a significant headache to develop. Headaches can occur as a result of a concussion or a blood clot.

Changes in physical function

A severe enough concussion can affect a person deeply. It can result in personality changes, vision problems and memory issues. Traumatic brain injuries are common after car accidents, and one of the most typical explanations for deaths following crashes.

Post-traumatic stress disorder

While soldiers are most often associated with PTSD, anyone can develop it. People involved in car accidents can develop PTSD where they have vivid nightmares or memories of the incident, which prevent them from living fulfilling lives. PTSD is particularly common in children who were passengers in a car following a crash. It is vital to see a doctor so these problems can become diagnosed as quickly as possible.
