Distracted driving car accidents on the rise

There are inevitable dangers on the road in Fort Lauderdale for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. While accidents are frequently unavoidable, behaviors that cause them are a persistent factor. One common issue is distracted driving. While this is a known issue that law enforcement is trying to control and government agencies are seeking a solution, it is still an ongoing problem. The number of accidents with fatalities is indicative of this reality.

Traffic deaths were decreasing in recent years, but they have started increasing again. The National Safety Council (NSC) states that there were more than 18,000 deaths on the road in the first six months of 2017. There were also 2 million injuries from crashes during that same period. The fatalities are comparable to 2016, where there was an increase from the previous two years. The CEO of the NSC stated that there are 100 deaths on the roads every day.

One reason for this is due to more drivers being on the road because of a reduction in the price of gas and a stronger economy. While vehicle safety is much better than it used to be, it does not eliminate the problem of unsafe drivers and the behaviors that can result in a crash.

Distracted driving is a cause of many of these accidents, and there has been a rise of 9 percent. Along with drivers operating above the speed limit and driving under the influence, these are the three main reasons for fatal motor vehicle accidents. It is believed that greater vigilance can reduce the number of fatalities. The current pace will result in approximately 40,000 deaths in 2017.

When there is an accident, it can lead to serious injuries and death. People who are hurt will need medical attention, face lost wages and might never be able to regain full normalcy. With a death, the people who have lost a loved one, must pay for funeral costs and learn to get by without their loved one. A legal filing is often the only way to financially recover. Discussing a case with an experienced personal injury attorney can help with seeking compensation.
