Death in Florida crash could stem from defective airbag

There has been a great deal of information in Fort Lauderdale about malfunctioning car parts, particularly airbags and their inflators. With recalls and warnings, it can be difficult to know when car accidents and wrongful death incidents were because of product liability. When there is an accident, people are injured by a faulty airbag and its accompanying equipment, it is imperative to understand how to pursue compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.

A car accident that led to a woman's death in Florida allegedly was caused by Takata. The accident happened in late July. If it is found to have been caused by the airbag inflator, it will be the 19th known such death because of this issue in the world and the 13th in the U.S.

The woman in this accident, 34, was in a 2002 Honda Accord. A 1999 Pontiac Firebird turned into her path. The Honda hit the Pontiac and the Honda's airbag inflated. The woman died from blunt force trauma. Three others in the vehicle had minor injuries. The woman had three children.

The issue with these inflators is that they explode with an amount of force that causes the metal canister to come apart, sending shrapnel into the traffic compartment. The ongoing recall for U.S. vehicles with these parts has reached 42 million. The recalls for the inflators is up to 69 million. Worldwide, there have been more than 100 million recalls. All fatalities save for one happened in Honda vehicles.

With an accident of this kind, the evidence is the most important factor in a wrongful death legal filing. Because the issues with Takata airbags in general and particularly those in Honda vehicles are known, there is circumstantial evidence that this is a product liability case. However, it is vital to have a comprehensive investigation. Speaking to a legal professional who has experienced in product liability car accidents is key.
