Hit-and-run crash leads to wrongful death of pedestrian

In Florida, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians must make every effort to share the road and keep everyone safe. Since the state is so reliant on its roadways and people use a variety of methods to get to and fro, it is unavoidable that car accidents will occur. When these crashes are bicycle and pedestrian accidents, those who are not accorded the safety of a vehicle will undoubtedly suffer injuries and fatalities. After the accident has taken place, those involved are expected to stay at the scene to make sure the others are safe and to call for aid if need be. That does not always happen. Regardless of the circumstances, those who were injured or lost a loved one in a crash must be cognizant of the steps necessary to file a personal injury case.

In one recent incident, a 28-year-old Florida man was hit by a car that fled the scene after the collision. The man was said to be crossing the street at around 8:40 p.m. when the accident took place. The vehicle took off, making this a hit-and-run. The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Law enforcement is investigating the case to try and find the driver. Witnesses say that the vehicle was light-colored and might have damage to its front windshield, bumper and hood.

Being struck by a vehicle will often lead to severe injuries and death. The individual injured and the family of a lost loved one will need to reconcile the reality of an unexpected death in an accident with moving forward with their lives. Although it is difficult to think about, medical care will be costly if a person survives, and he or she might need care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With a death, there can be the funeral expenses, lost companionship, lost wages and other contributions that are no longer going to be available. A lawsuit is often the only way to seek fair compensation.

Although the driver fled the scene, these cases are generally resolved as law enforcement investigates, seeks evidence, finds witnesses and finds the driver. In situations like this, the deceased's family must protect itself by putting the pieces in place to file a legal case with help from an experienced wrongful death attorney.
