Scooter crash causes personal injury and death in Florida

With the number of people on the road and innumerable people visiting from other states and countries, it is unavoidable that there will be a fair share of car accidents and motorcycle accidents. These crashes can cause significant damage to those who are involved with medical costs, lost wages and even death. For those who have been hurt or lost a loved one in a crash, a personal injury legal filing can help to get compensation and closure.

These accidents do not discriminate and can happen even to those whose job it is to help others who have been in a crash. Such was the case when two law enforcement officers were involved in an accident as they rode a scooter while off-duty. The accident happened at around 3 a.m. as the two female officers were riding and a car cut in front of them. One officer, 40, died in the accident. The other, 25, was injured. The deceased officer was flown to a trauma center where she later died. The injured officer was hospitalized with critical injuries. The case is under investigation.

When riding a motorcycle or scooter, the vulnerability is substantial. If there is an accident, there is a major chance of broken bones, damage to the spinal cord, head injuries and more. This is due to the lack of protection a motorcyclist has even if he or she is following all the safety protocols. Medical expenses can be massive, a hospital stay can be long-term, and the person could be unable to work for an extended period if not forever. If there is a fatality, the family left behind will need to get beyond the emotional upheaval from a sudden death and deal with the financial and personal ramifications. Often, the only strategy to be compensated is through a wrongful death lawsuit.

In this accident, two off-duty law enforcement officers were in a scooter accident. One died and the other was severely injured. This case is still under investigation and since law enforcement officers were involved, the police will make certain to cover all the bases. However, that does not mean the families of the two women should not protect themselves with investigations from their own perspective. Gathering evidence and understanding how the crash happened can help with litigation. Their families need to contact an attorney as soon as possible.
