It's a place where families go to have fun on a wide variety of rides. Viewed by many theme park visitors as a tame ride, the churning waters of the Thunder River Rapids Ride turned deadly recently for visitors to Dreamworld.
Here in Florida, we know that theme parks draw millions of visitors to our state each year. We also know that the rides that lure visitors sometimes turn into nightmares of injuries and even fatalities. That was the case recently at Australia's Dreamworld, where four people died as they rode a large, circular raft through foamy, artificial rapids.
Children often go on the Thunder River Rapids Ride. It was until the fatal, horrifying accident considered a safe, family ride.
Two men and two women lost their lives when one of the rafts overturned at the theme park, however. Two people were thrown from the raft and two were trapped on it. All four died.
The victims ranged in age from 32 to 42.
Witnesses ran from the scene screaming, a news report indicated. First responders were said to be traumatized by what they saw.
The tragedy is a reminder that even when circumstances appear tame and family-friendly, mechanical failures or a failure to maintain equipment properly can wreak havoc.
For those who suffer injuries on a business's property due to negligent security or because buildings or machinery were improperly maintained, life undergoes instant transformation. Injuries result in large medical bills, loss of wages and often much more.
