People in Florida are injured in a variety of ways every year. The type of injury can range from bumps and bruises to brain and spinal cord injuries. If the injury is severe enough, such as a spinal cord injury, the victim's life may never be the same again.
These types of injuries prevent people from doing many activities that they are used to doing and require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. This can be very costly. However, there is a program in Florida, which may be utilized by residents.
It is called the Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program. There are eligibility requirements and the person must have a reasonable chance of returning to living in the community as opposed to in assisted living after rehabilitation. If a person is eligible, the program offers in-patient and out-patient services, assistive technology, modifications to the person's home and vehicle, long-term support for the victim and the families and other services.
This program can be extremely valuable, but there may still be many medical expenses incurred by the victim prior to acceptance in the program. Also, the victim most likely will miss time at work, if they are ever able to work again. The victim may be able to pursue compensation for these costs though if the injury was caused by another person or entity.
Unfortunately, many people in Florida suffer spinal cord injuries each year. These injuries may completely change the victim's life and may be extremely costly as well. The victim may be eligible for special programs, but even if they are not, the victim will have to go through extensive rehabilitation. Therefore, it may help for individuals who suffered a spinal cord injury due to another person's negligence to research their legal options.
