Treatment after a spinal cord injury in Florida

Every injury in Florida requires some sort of treatment. Sometimes, all that is required is rest, but other injuries can require medical attention and even long stays at hospitals. One type of injury that requires long-term medical attention is spinal cord injuries. These injuries can take years to fully recover, if the person ever fully recovers. The initial time in the hospital can help prevent some of the permanent damage, though.

After arriving at the hospital, the first care is to stabilize the person's head and neck. After that, there are a number of things that may occur. The doctor may take a CAT scan or MRI to try and determine the extent of the injury. They may also need to monitor the blood pressure, which can drop after a while. Certain drugs may be used to help reduce inflammation and loss of nerve cells as well.

After this, the doctors may need to conduct surgery to remove foreign objects, fractures in the vertebrae, herniated disks and other things that may cause pressure on the spine. When the surgery will take place depends on the doctor. Some believe early intervention is best while others believe that the patient should be stabilized first. Either way, the surgery will be performed if it is needed. After surgery, there may be a number of other procedures that may be required while in the hospital.

While it is vital to receive this medical care, all these medical procedures can be very costly. However, if the injury was caused by another individual, the victim may be entitled to compensation for the medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and other financial problems arising from the injury.

Many people suffer spinal cord injuries each year in Florida. These injuries can completely change a person's life and be extremely costly. While it will not heal the injuries, the victim may be entitled to compensation for their injuries to help with the financial concerns associated with the injury. Experienced attorneys understand the devastation associated with spinal cord injuries and can help protect one's rights.
